No, I'm not talking about the Marines. I'm talking about you, and me. (Hopefully).

“The preoccupations of [teenage] girls – their looks, their clothes, their social life – do not change very much from generation to generation. But in every generation there seem to be a few who make other choices. Amy was one of the few.”

Elizabeth Eliot says this in her book A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael.

Having a social life, having cute clothes, being attractive – none of these things are bad in and of themselves. But if these are the things we live for – the things that occupy all of our time, our priorities, and our passions – we are simply average, settling in for the mediocrity of what is expected of us.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be remembered for how pretty I was, how popular I was, or how fashionably I dressed. I want to be remembered for making a difference for Christ – for truly having a love for the Lord and those around me. I want to have a purpose in life. I want to live for something; or rather, Someone.

Welcome to the Set Apart Hearts blog. This is just a place for discussion, accountability, and dare I say the typical Christian term “fellowship” as we seek God’s will for our lives, learn to love Him more and more, and study His Word.

Every time God tells us no, it is so that He can tell us a bigger and better yes. We can choose to live the typical lukewarm Christian’s life – or we can seek something better. We can seek to live the Christian life as it was meant to be lived – an adventure with God, willing to do whatever He wants, dying to self, and living for Him! “I must decrease so He can increase.”

“That we must choose has already been decided. But the choosing itself has been left to us. And what we choose will decide our fate.” –Eric Ludy

We know that if we seek God with our whole heart – if we choose to let our hearts be set apart for Him – we will find Him. Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “But from there you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with ALL your heart and soul, you will find him.”

How amazing would it be to have someone say about you one day: “The preoccupations of [teenage] girls – their looks, their clothes, their social life – do not change very much from generation to generation. But in every generation there seem to be a few who make other choices. ______ (your name) was one of the few.”

A few logistics about this blog: We will attempt to post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We also will do some “series” – a bunch of blog posts on one topic. The first series starting Wednesday is going to be on the heart. Since this blog is “Set Apart Hearts,” why not discuss what the heart is, what are we supposed to do with it, and what the culture says about the heart?

We hope you will join us as we seek to have set apart hearts for the Lord.
